AMD Ryzen 9 5900X vs GEFORCE RTX 2080 SUPER

NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2080S(Desktop)

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super or 2080S sits behind the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti as the fastest desktop GPU in NVIDIA's current Turning line-up(mid 2019). It is the refresh of the one year old RTX 2080 (Desktop) with slightly higher performance. The GPU offer 3,072 cores (up from 2,944) and is based on the TU104 chip. The VRAM is still 8 GB of GDDR6 but now higher clocked at 15.5 GHz (496 GB/s vs. 14 GHz and 448 GB/s).

Features

NVIDIA manufacturers the TU104 chip on a 12 nm FinFET process, there is also support for HDMI 2.0, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) and H.265 video en/decoding (PlayReady 3.0).

Peformance

The RTX 2080 Super slightly outperforms the older Nvidia Titan XP and of course the RTX 2080 which it succeeds. Using raytracing features, will reduce the playable resolution however.

Power Requirements

NVIDIA estimates that the RTX 2080 Super should consume a maximum of  250 W, which is 35 W higher then the company rates its GeForce GTX 2080.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (Desktop)

The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT is a desktop GPU of the upper middle class and is manufactured in the 7nm process. The graphics processor has 2,560 shader units and 8 GB of GDDR6-VRAM with a 256-bit interface (7GHz, 448 GB/s).

Features

RDNA serves as the basis for the basis for the graphics chip called Navi 10 and thus replaces the GCN architecture for the older graphic cards. The Radeon RX-5700 series is the world's first graphics card to support PCI Express 4.0. The new media engine can now decode videos with a resolution of up to 8K and the new display engine supports screens with up to 8K at 60Hz including HDR or 4K HDR at 144Hz.

Performance

The performance of the AMD Radeon RX 5700XT is comparable to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070S. In the internal duel, the AMD Radeon RX 5700XT surpasses the performance of a Radeon RX Vega64 and the RX 5700 XT can even compete with a much more expensive Radeon VII. With the AMD Radeon RX 5700XT, most games from 2018 and 2019 can be played smoothly in 1440p and the ultra preset.

 Power consumption

The manufacturer puts the power consumption of the AMD Radeon RX 5700XT at 225 watts (TGP) and is thus roughly on par with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070S (215 watts).

 Conclusion

Based on the benchmark of 6 games, the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Bottlenecks the RTX 2080 SUPER at 1080p - ultra settings by 2.7% on average.
